I MUST BE A "CLOSET" LIBERAL
I MUST BE A “CLOSET” LIBERAL
Why you may ask! Damned if I know. I voted for Bush on his last run just to avoid voting for the environmental Guru. Voted for Obama in 08 because I thought the POW must have been predisposed to fight any presumed enemy. You see, I cannot decide whether to vote for the party whose platform is consistent with my social values, that would be Democratic or vote for the party that is promising to be frugal, decrease government controls and limit spending, of course that would be a Republican candidate.
Now there are several Republican candidates who have thrown their hats in that I would just not vote for, namely Bachman, Perry and Santorum. All three are so far right I could not accept their social values. They would do their best to overturn Rowe vs. Wade. I believe that abortion should not be used as birth control, however there are instances that an abortion is justified. Early abortion is justified in the cases of health of the mother, incest, and rape. They believe that being Gay is a choice and would probably try to make Civil Unions and Gays in the military be illegal or secretive. They do not accept the fact that the citizens of this country have Religious Freedom.
But then again, should I decide to vote Republican it would be for Romney or Huntsman. Romney has dealt with the health care situation in Massachusetts, and from what I hear; the citizens of Massachusetts liked the plan. Huntsman however is very familiar with China, who I consider the greatest threat to our way of life.
Voting Republican rather goes against my grain, especially after watching a documentary aired about the times that led to the Civil War. It depicted the religious disagreements between the two prevalent churches Baptists and Methodists. The disagreement was over whether Negro slaves were “a blessing from God”, or that they should be Free citizens.
Baptists contended they were a “blessing from God”, while the Methodist believed they should be free citizens. So Old Abe, who belonged to no church but was said to be spiritual, had a problem on his hands when the South decided to succeed from the Union.
It was a terrible war as brother fought against brother, and there were more casualties during that time than in any other war the United States has fought. It took quite a toll on the president. Some say he never recovered from the slaughter that took place.
So it seems to me that the right thing to do is to vote for a Democrat, all be it that the Democratic choice has spending habits that we cannot afford, and has not given any indication that he has a plan to pay off our debts; while we borrow 40 cents of every dollar we spend, mostly from China!
The question is, should we vote with our heart or our pocket book.
